Console games - Huge database of games
A console game is a type of video game consisting of images and often sounds generated by a video game console that are displayed on a television or similar audio-video system, and which can be manipulated by the player. This manipulation is usually done with a portable device connected to the console called a controller. The controller typically contains several buttons and directional controls, such as analog sticks, each assigned a specific purpose for interacting with and controlling images on the screen. The display, speakers, console, and console controls can also be combined into one small object known as a handheld game.
Console games typically come as an optical disc, ROM cartridge, digital download, or in the case of dedicated consoles, stored in internal memory. The global console game market was worth approximately $26.8 billion in 2018.
Differences between consoles create additional challenges and opportunities for game developers as console manufacturers (eg Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony) may provide additional incentives, support and marketing for games exclusive to consoles. To facilitate the development of games for consoles, manufacturers often create game development kits that developers can use in their work.
